In this article you will learn how to install and run Jenkins on local PC. The article will continue based on Windows machine but the same logic goes for Linux Machines. You just need to apply the same steps.
1.) Java installed machine
2.) jenkins.war file.
1.) Go to https://www.java.com/en/download/ to download the latest Java version.
2.) Install Java and check if it is added to path by checking java -version command from Command Line ( Press Windows + R shortcut and type cmd and press Enter.)
So we can understand that java installation is completed and added to environment path.
3.) Now we need to get jenkins.war file to run Jenkins.
Go to https://jenkins.io/download/ and download Generic Java Package (.war) file.
4.) All prerequisites are completed. Now it is time to run Jenkins Server.
Go into folder where jenkins.war file is and type cmd to “path url” to open Command Line Screen.
5.) Run java -jar jenkins.war command into Command Line to start Jenkins.
6.) You will see that it will print logs into the cmd screen. In this screen, find your default password .
7.) Jenkins server is up now! We need to know our IP address to check it. Type ipconfig to check your IP Address.
8.) After getting IP address, we need to visit http://192.168.1.22:8080 address. Jenkins runs on 8080 port.
Note : This link will not work for you because it is my local Jenkins Project. It would work if you were in the same network with me.
9.) It asks you for default password which you got from cmd screen. Paste password and click Continue.
10.) It will ask you which plugins you want to use. I clicked “Install suggested plugins” to get the most popular plugins. It will start download from internet and install automatically.
11.) Next screen, URL choice is asked. Click Save and Finish.
12.) You can create a user like below. Then continue as admin.
13.) That’s all! You are ready to use Jenkins.
